I AM The Light of the World – The Light of the New Day
When Jesus came to earth as a man, he declared of Himself, “I AM The Light of the World,” and that those who follow him would have the light of life. In the Old Covenant there are scriptures and prophesies dealing with light. For example, Isaiah prophesies of a Day where the sun will not be the light. Isaiah 60:19 Thy sun shall be no more thy light by day; neither for brightness shall the moon give light unto thee: but the LORD shall be unto thee an everlasting light, and thy God thy glory. 20 Thy sun shall no more go down; neither shall thy moon withdraw itself: for the LORD shall be thine everlasting light, and the days of thy mourning shall be ended.” The Lord shall be an everlasting Light. Let us hear this. Jesus said He is the Light. Isaiah said the Lord shall be an everlasting light. Jesus is the fulfillment of what Isaiah said.
He is the light we live by in the New Creation. Paul’s heart for the Church is that the Light of the knowledge of the Glory of God would shine unto us. He also declares that the light of God shines in our hearts to transform us to the Glory of God. See folks this is a new day and a new land. God Himself is the light and the glory of it.
In the old day and old land, we could not be transformed. The light of Christ was not shining in a people. The Old Covenant Tabernacle, Holy of Holies was speaking of this light. In this tabernacle was the light of God. No light of the sun or moon did lighten the Holy of Holies, but God Himself. However, the children of Israel could not approach it, only the High Priest once a year with the blood of atonement.
Now in Christ Jesus, this hidden light shines in our hearts to give us understanding of what we have in Christ. This light not only shines in us but transforms us. You may say, how can that be? Simple, Jesus said He is THE LIGHT! He is shining within us!
In John’s Gospel, John writes, “walk in the light as He is the light, and the blood of Jesus Christ cleanses us from all sin.” Now consider for a moment that the blood of the Old Covenant could not cleanse or take away sins. That day had a continual knowledge of sin in it, but not the solution for it. In this New Day that we are walking in, Christ cleanses us from sins and transforms us into His Life. This is a new, everlasting Day where the Lamb is the Light thereof. Glory to God!
