John 6:53 “Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you. 54 Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day.
This is a bold statement that Jesus makes. This word except means unless, Strong’s 3362. It is without exception. The word comes from two Greek words, one of which is Strong’s number 1437 which is if, and is a particle showing the statement is conditional. Except is showing that to have His Life, or Eternal Life is conditional on eating Him. This Life does not reside in the natural man. It is an altogether different Life. Jesus is the Bread of Life that comes down from heaven. Unless we eat of this Bread, we do not have THIS LIFE, period!
The second Greek word that Except is made up from is Strong’s 3361, which is a particle of negation, meaning no, not, ruling out any implications. The statement is so strong that Jesus is making. Unless you eat of Him, you do not, in anyway, shape or form, have His Life. His Life is from another origin. It originates from Him, and not from the natural mankind. Christ Himself is the Bread of this Heavenly Life. If we are to dwell in this life it is imperative that we eat of Him. Otherwise, we do not have this Life.
How do we receive this Life? Jesus makes it clear, John 6:47 “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.” In another encounter with Him, He declared that out of your inner being would flow rivers of living water, speaking of the Spirit, that He would give to those that believe. He that believes in Him has everlasting life. I want to express this is not just a one time believing, but an ongoing relationship that we enter into. We receive what He has done. God’s grace saves us. It is nothing of ourselves. However, in this relationship with Christ we continue in Him by eating His Flesh and Drinking His Blood.
The peace and solidity of God can only be made known in the soul be eating Him. If I eat continuously of the world. Take in through my mind that of the world, whether its joy or its distress, I will not know the glorious peace that is in Christ even if I am in Him. When my heart turns to see that of Christ, unshakeable peace, joy, and righteousness will begin to be formed in me. I will begin to know His peace that passes understanding. I will begin to know His joy that the world does not know. This comes in eating Him.
As the Spirit of God declares that which He is in me, I receive of Him. I eat of Him. That which He is becomes alive or real in me. This is Eternal Life, that which He is! Glory to God!
