In John’s Gospel, Jesus said that He is the bread of life. John 6:32 “Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Moses gave you not that bread from heaven; but my Father giveth you the true bread from heaven. 33 For the bread of God is he which cometh down from heaven, and giveth life unto the world. 34 Then said they unto him, Lord, evermore give us this bread. 35 And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.”
The Bread of God is He that comes down from Heaven and gives Life unto the world. Jesus said in John 10 that His purpose for coming was that we may have Life. He declares Himself to be Life. The Life of God is not men and women simply breathing oxygen. The Life of God is that which is Christ Himself. How we receive the Life of God is that we must eat of Him, “unless you eat my flesh and drink my blood you have no Life in you.”
When I was younger, I was told that we are what we eat. It appears that is precise and correct. Unless we eat of Him, we do not have part in Him. As we eat of Him, that which He is becomes real or alive in us. This is receiving His Life. That which is in Christ becoming alive in me. This happens through eating His flesh and drinking His blood. If I could convince Christians to do anything at all, it would be to take time and come and eat of Christ. I believe in eating of Him we may find the answers to all we may be desiring, or to all we may need.
As an example, I can read in my Bible that we are the righteousness of God. This is the absolute truth through the work of Calvary and the Grace of God. We are made righteous in the Beloved. Nothing we could have ever done in ourselves could have accomplished righteousness. He, Jesus, is righteousness, and we are made righteous in Him. However, I may read this and agree with what the Bible says. This does not mean that I immediately feel and think that we are righteous. Many times, we do not believe or feel like we are righteous. However, as we eat and drink of Christ, receiving the work He completed in His death, burial, resurrection, we come to a place in Him where we know we are righteous. Through eating Him we know, what His work obtained, and that place in Christ becomes real or alive in our hearts and minds to be expressed in our bodies.
I could have used peace or joy for this example. We eat of Him, and His Life becomes real in us. His life is that which is in Him. Righteousness, peace, and joy are in Christ. We obtain these things in reality or living expression, as we obtain or comprehend that which is in Christ. This is an ongoing comprehension on our part. We do not arrive at all that is in Christ at one certain time. “Of His fullness we have received,” as John writes, but His fullness is comprehended and obtained as we know Him, and we know Him piece by piece as He is revealed and made real in our hearts and minds. I believe this to be an eternal knowing. In other words, I believe we will eternally be knowing the fullness of Christ Jesus. He has no end. Glory to God.
